Job Highlight

This internship offers the opportunity to contribute to the UN’s digital agenda by supporting the implementation of innovation projects and emerging technologies within process improvement projects and supply chain management. You will contribute to high-level strategic research and data-driven analysis to improve operational efficiency and global visibility for the organization.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS, provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Furthermore, UNOPS may provide a one-time travel lump sum to support this internship. However, the interns must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel.

The incumbent will be a UNOPS intern under its full responsibility.

Job Specific Context

UNOPS is committed to leveraging technological innovation to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of its programs and support its partners, particularly in humanitarian and development contexts. Digital transformation, especially in supply chain management, is critical for improving service delivery in resource-constrained environments and ensuring greater organizational resilience. This position will support the integration of emerging technologies, data-driven decision-making, and best practices in process improvements and supply chain to achieve strategic organizational and programmatic objectives.

Role Purpose

Project Management Intern - Innovation and Supply Chain Technology will support the UNTSS in accelerating the adoption of emerging technologies within the area of business process improvement and  supply chain management. The primary objective of this role is to assist in the timely completion and reporting of key milestones for assigned projects, ensuring that digital initiatives remain on track and aligned with organizational goals.

Functions / Key Results Expected

The Intern will be responsible for supporting initiatives across innovation, technology adoption, and supply chain effectiveness, reporting to the Senior Programme Manager. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Project Management and Coordination:

    • Support the project management and coordination of innovation initiatives, ensuring timely execution of milestones and alignment with organizational and programmatic goals across diverse internal and external stakeholders.

  2. Technology Research and Strategic Analysis:

    • Assist in  research on emerging technology trends (e.g., Artificial Intelligence) and  assess their specific relevance to sustainable development, humanitarian operations, and particularly supply chain management (e.g., forecasting, distribution, resilience).

    • Support in preparing  analytical insights and recommendations to senior leadership on the potential adoption and implementation of innovative technologies to enhance overall program effectiveness and operational efficiency.

  3. Analytical Support and Reporting:

    • Support in analyzing operational and supply chain data to systematically identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement in service delivery, particularly in challenging, resource-constrained settings.

    • Support the preparation of high-quality briefings, comprehensive reports, and presentations to inform critical decision-making processes and high-level programme discussions.

  4. Supply Chain Expertise and Knowledge Contribution:

    • Contribute actively to knowledge-sharing initiatives by synthesizing research findings on digital innovation, technology applications, and best practices relevant to international development and operational efficiency.

  5. Partnership and Collaboration:

    • Support and facilitate cross-functional collaboration by engaging proactively with technical teams, program staff, and external partners to ensure technology solutions are closely aligned with organizational priorities and operational needs.

Education Requirements

Required:

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree or be pursuing an advanced university degree, such as a Masters or a Ph.D., or be a recent graduate from such studies (within the last 3 years). 

  • To be eligible for this particular internship, the candidate should have studied or be studying towards a university degree preferably in: Innovation & Entrepreneurship; Business Administration; Sciences, Mathematics, Supply Chain Management, International Development, or Information Technology, or another related discipline.


Experience Requirements

Desired:

  • Practical experience (including internships, volunteer work, or research assistantships) in data analysis, project coordination, or supply chain logistics. 

  • Experience in drafting technical documents, research summaries, or academic reports.
