The UNOPS Africa Regional Office, based in Nairobi, Kenya, oversees the delivery of over 250 projects across 40 countries, with a focus on fragile and conflict-affected settings. About the Country/Multi-Country Office
Based in Addis Ababa, the Horn of Africa Multi-Country Office (HAMCO) delivers project management, procurement, and infrastructure services across Djibouti, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Sudan, with a primary focus on health, agriculture, and economic development. Established in 2009, HAMCO partners with governments and development stakeholders to implement impactful, results-driven initiatives that contribute to sustainable development. Since 2024, new projects have been aimed at expanding access to healthcare, education, energy, and livelihoods, particularly in underserved and conflict-affected regions. HAMCO also provides human resource management services, supporting the effective implementation of development initiatives. Key efforts include equipping research facilities, strengthening education and health systems, building vaccine research capacity, and enhancing resilience in communities affected by crisis. Through these interventions, HAMCO contributes to inclusive growth, regional stability, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across the Horn of Africa.

This position operates within a dynamic project environment, supporting critical logistics and warehouse operations across multiple projects. The role is essential to ensuring efficient management of inbound and outbound goods, maintaining accurate inventory control, and adhering to warehouse standard operating procedures. The Warehouse Associate will be expected to handle all goods with proper care, ensuring client satisfaction and promoting the image and credibility of UNOPS.

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Administration Officer, the Warehouse Associate provides management in handling of all inbound and outbound goods and goods delivery. The Warehouse Associate will be expected to handle all goods with proper care. The Warehouse Associate has a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds

1. Warehouse Goods Management
- Manage the receipt, storage, and distribution of warehouse goods, ensuring proper handling and care at all times.
- Ensure that goods are stored in their proper locations, setting up layout and ensuring efficient space utilization.
- Safeguard goods at all times, implementing and overseeing warehouse security operations.
2. Inventory Control and Quality Assurance
- Manage inventory control and reconcile with the data storage system, performing frequent error/audit checks by reviewing bin count reports.
- Receive returns and enter items back into inventory, restocking items in designated spots in the warehouse.
- Ensure the safe-handling of all products during picking, loading, discharging and stocking to avoid any damages.
3. Operational Policies and Procedures
- Implement operational policies and procedures as per warehouse standard operating procedures.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures including contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations, reporting potentially unsafe conditions.
- Use equipment and materials properly, attending safety meetings as required.
4. Team Management and Coordination
- Schedule and oversee the warehouse team, and manage the flow and quality of work to maximize efficiency and minimize overtime.
- Review order board, work orders and pick tags to determine items to be pulled and distributed, preparing items for pick up or shipment.
- Contact suppliers, technicians or other agencies in regards to order status, as needed, and contact shipping vendors to arrange pick up, as needed.
5. Customer Service and Reporting
- Provide a high level of customer service by assisting clients (walk-in/phone) with requests in a timely manner, referring technical questions to appropriate personnel.
- Complete and file appropriate paperwork, receiving and unloading daily warehouse shipments verifying items and quantities.
- Perform other duties within the same scope and level of difficulty as required and assigned, such as some inventory control functions including stock order placements and min/max system settings.

Secondary school (or equivalent) with 6 years of relevant experience in a warehouse role is required. OR
Desired
- First University Degree (Bachelor's Degree) preferably in logistics, business administration, or supply chain management with 2 years of experience in a warehouse role is an asset.

Six years of relevant experience working in warehouse role or related areas with a high school diploma is required.

Some experience in UN system organizations is desirable.

- For retainer contracts, you must complete a few mandatory courses (they take around 4 hours to complete) in your own time, before providing services to UNOPS.
