About the Group

The Group defines financial strategy in alignment with organizational goals, establishes finance policies, systems, and processes, and leads corporate budgeting to enable full cost recovery and ensure long-term financial sustainability. Throughout the project lifecycle, the Finance Group provides expert guidance, oversight, and tailored financial solutions. Responsibilities include delivering comprehensive financial and corporate performance reporting, strengthening financial capacity across the organization, and continuously enhancing resource planning and allocation. In addition, the Finance Group prepares and oversees the implementation of finance-related policies, upholding the highest standards of financial stewardship and supporting UNOPS in achieving operational excellence and fiscal responsibility.

Job Specific Context

This position is responsible for providing support in asset management and financial reporting, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of asset data within the UNOPS ERP system. The role involves assisting with the preparation of financial reports, supporting physical asset verification processes, and contributing to the maintenance of a strong control environment around financial reporting related to asset management. Additionally, the position supports the management of UNOPS' global fleet and contributes to system improvements and knowledge management activities.


The Finance (Asset Management) Associate will directly report to the Asset Management Specialist and will be associated with the Financial Statement & UNBOA Relations team based in UNOPS HQ in Denmark.


Please note that as this is a local position is based in Bangkok, Thailand candidates need to be Thai Nationals.

Role Purpose

The Finance (Asset Management) Associate takes responsibility for a complete, specialized administrative process related to asset management and financial reporting, from start to finish, ensuring its integrity. This includes supporting the preparation of financial reports, processing asset transactions, assisting with physical asset verification, and contributing to system improvements and knowledge management activities.

Functions / Key Results Expected

1. Asset Management and Financial Reporting

  • Assist in preparation and reconcile in-transit asset data on a quarterly basis for inclusion in corporate financial reports.
  • Review approved requests for asset recognition, movement, and derecognition (including disposals and impairments) for accuracy and completeness. Generate corresponding entries / transactions within the UNOPS ERP system for necessary processing and posting.
  • Ensure all necessary supporting documents for asset transactions (e.g., procurement records, verification reports) are accurately uploaded and maintained in the UNOPS ERP system to meet audit requirements.
  • Provide substantive support during the bi-annual physical asset verification processes and subsequent post-verification activities, including the processing of necessary adjustments, impairments, and disposals.
  • Assist in the review and validation of data for inventory submissions before processing transactions to capitalize inventory on a periodic basis.
  • Support systematic inventory data collection through the tools available in UNOPS to facilitate corporate reporting. 
  • Assist in reviewing data for Inventory submission before processing transactions to capitalize on a periodic basis. 
  • Provide support in the preparation of asset management related schedules, working files, and data reconciliations for corporate reporting on a quarterly basis . 
  • Coordinate and monitor asset management related activities pertaining to quarterly and year-end financial closure processes, including adhering to critical deadlines for book closure.
  • Contribute towards maintaining and developing a strong control environment around financial reporting related submissions pertaining to asset management and also conduct periodic monitoring and oversight of transactions and asset management related account balances.
  • Perform documentation review to ensure completeness and compliance against internal policies and applicable standards.


2. Fleet Management

  • Support the accurate maintenance and management of data pertaining to UNOPS' global fleet (vehicles and related assets).
  • Support the development and subsequent enforcement of policies related to global fleet ( i.e. usage, driver behavior, and safety standards etc.).


3. System Improvement and Knowledge Management

  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for asset management requirements within the UNOPS ERP system (OneUNOPS).
  • Identify potential system improvements aimed at optimizing financial processes, improving data accuracy, and reducing manual work. Assist in the testing and implementation of new system developments related to asset management.
  • Provide administrative and substantive support for knowledge management activities, including the organization, preparation, and delivery of training events and materials for finance staff and personnel engaged in asset management.
  • Support in preparation of process mapping documentation to facilitate effective knowledge management pertaining to asset management within the organization  (e.g., the UNOPS Policy, Process Portal).

Education Requirements

Required

  • Secondary school (or equivalent) with 6 years of relevant experience OR

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in any discipline with 2 years of relevant experience is required.


Desired

  • A University degree (Bachelor or Master’s) in Finance, Business, Accounting or related numerate field is strongly preferred and may substitute for some years of experience

  • Specialized training in finance or accounting

  • A globally or nationally recognized professional certificate in accounting is desired.

Experience Requirements

Required

  • Relevant experience is work in finance or related areas. 

  • A minimum of 2 years working with accounting, administration or programme support service


Desired

  • Experience in fleet/asset management.

  • Experience in the usage of ERP systems.

  • Experience of working in multicultural environments or UN system organizations.
