About the Region

The Asia Pacific Regional Office, based in Bangkok, Thailand, provides strategic leadership and oversight for UNOPS operations across 17 countries, ensuring high performance, operational excellence, and alignment with organizational goals. Operations currently span Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Pacific Islands. Across these countries, we work closely with key stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and maximize impact through five main operating units: Afghanistan (AFCO), Myanmar (MMCO), South Asia Multi-Country Office (SAMCO), East Asia and Pacific Multi-Country Office (EAPMCO), and the Asia Regional Health Cluster (ARHC). Through these entities, we provide agile, client-focused service delivery across diverse sectors - including infrastructure, health, procurement, and project management - supporting the implementation of sustainable development solutions across the region.

About the Project Office

Since 1995, UNOPS has maintained an active presence in Afghanistan, delivering efficient, agile services in support of both humanitarian response and development efforts. Prior to August 2021, the Afghanistan Country Office (AFCO) implemented projects across a broad range of sectors, including infrastructure, procurement, capacity building, and environmental protection. In response to evolving humanitarian needs, AFCO has shifted its focus to supporting life-saving initiatives and basic human needs. Current priorities include managing large-scale cash-for-work programmes, procuring emergency supplies, and providing inter-agency coordination, communication, and accountability support.

Job Specific Context

The position operates within the UNOPS Afghanistan Country Office (AFCO), focusing on supporting life-saving initiatives and basic human needs. The Warehouse Clerk plays a crucial role in managing and ensuring efficient logistics and warehouse support services, which are vital for the timely delivery of humanitarian and development projects in a challenging environment. This role requires strict compliance with UNOPS asset management policies and internal control requirements.

Role Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Admin/Logistics Associate, the Warehouse Clerk manages and ensures the provision of efficient logistic and warehouse support services in compliance with UNOPS asset management policies, procedures, and internal control requirements. The incumbent fosters a quality and results-oriented approach, ensuring the optimal and cost-effective use of office resources.

Functions / Key Results Expected

1. Warehouse Operations and Inventory Management 

  • Verify incoming goods against purchase orders, delivery notes, packing lists, and other supporting documents. Liaise with suppliers, transporters, and other stakeholders during receipt and dispatch processes.

  • Support the unloading, storage, stacking, labeling, and preservation of warehouse items in accordance with established procedures. <br> - 

  • Maintain orderly, clean, and secure warehouse facilities in compliance with safety and security standards.

  • Maintain updated inventory records in relevant inventory and warehousing tracking tools. 

  • Support regular physical stock counts and monitor stock levels, identifying replenishment requirements for supervisors. 

  • Assist in identifying slow-moving, obsolete, damaged, or expired items and flagging appropriate actions to supervisors. 

  • Process and complete documentation for all warehouse transactions, ensuring proper filing and maintenance for audit purposes.


2. Logistics and Asset Management Support 

  • Support the timely and effective movement, storage, and distribution of goods in support of Logistics and operational requirements. 

  • Support the registration, tagging, tracking, and management of project assets and non-expendable property. 

  • Support physical verification exercises and annual inventory counts. 

  • Maintain records of asset movements, transfers, disposals, and handovers. 

  • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate records, reports, and supporting documentation. 

  • Maintain organized filing systems for warehouse and asset management records. 

  • Complete any other warehouse, logistics, inventory, or asset management-related task as assigned.

  • Support participation in training events for programme, operations, and projects personnel on logistics and warehouse related subjects.

Education Requirements

Required

  • High School Diploma with 4 years of relevant experience. 

  • Secondary School Diploma with 4 years of relevant experience.


Desired

  • First University Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or equivalent disciplines. 

  • Administrative certification.

Experience Requirements

Required

  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in warehouse management, logistics, or administration is required with a Secondary School Diploma. The number of years of experience required is reduced for candidates with higher education.


Desired

  • Ability to work with computer and google workspace packages. 

  • Some experience in UN system organizations.
