About the Region

The Asia Pacific Regional Office, based in Bangkok, Thailand, provides strategic leadership and oversight for UNOPS operations across 17 countries, ensuring high performance, operational excellence, and alignment with organizational goals. Operations currently span Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Pacific Islands. Across these countries, we work closely with key stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and maximize impact through five main operating units: Afghanistan (AFCO), Myanmar (MMCO), South Asia Multi-Country Office (SAMCO), East Asia and Pacific Multi-Country Office (EAPMCO), and the Asia Regional Health Cluster (ARHC). Through these entities, we provide agile, client-focused service delivery across diverse sectors - including infrastructure, health, procurement, and project management - supporting the implementation of sustainable development solutions across the region.

About the Country/Multi-Country Office

The South Asia Multi-Country Office (SAMCO) supports UNOPS operations across six countries: Bangladesh, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. SAMCO delivers a broad range of services and technical expertise in climate change, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), infrastructure, procurement, human resource management, and fund management. Each country office is staffed with local technical experts and maintains strong partnerships with national governments, ensuring context-specific solutions and effective project implementation.

Job Specific Context

The Cities 4 Women project (C4WP) represents a forward-looking initiative that places women’s voices, needs, and leadership at the center of urban development. By working with municipalities and development partners, the project seeks to create inclusive, safe, and accessible urban spaces that respond to the lived experiences of women and marginalized groups. The Project Management Intern will support project management capacity and contribute to advancing gender-responsive urban development.

Role Purpose

The Project Management Intern will support project management capacity and contribute to advancing gender-responsive urban development. Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the intern will assist with research, documentation, and stakeholder engagement that inform inclusive and resilient city planning.

Functions / Key Results Expected

1. Project Administration and Finance Support

  • Provide support in the preparation of briefs, summaries, and reports related to project administration and finance.

  • Support administrative and financial processes in accordance with project procedures.

  • Contribute to the collection, compilation, and basic analysis of financial and operational data for monitoring purposes.

2. Project Activity Implementation

  • Assist with the implementation of project activities, including participation in field visits and support to community-level engagement.
  • Support the development of communication and visibility materials related to project activities.


3. Stakeholder Coordination and Engagement

  • Assist in coordination with municipalities, partners, and community groups, contributing to the integration of women’s perspectives into project activities.

4. Documentation and Reporting

  • Gain practical experience in drafting documentation, preparing presentations, and contributing to Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) and Health, Safety, Social, and Environmental (HSSE) reporting.


5. Administrative Support

  • Provide administrative tasks such as meeting coordination, minute-taking, and preparation of briefing materials for partner engagements


Training components and learning elements

The internship provides opportunities to develop skills in project management, evidence-based urban planning, and financial oversight. Interns will have access to UNOPS online training tools and are encouraged to participate in learning events organized by UNOPS and other UN agencies in Kathmandu, particularly those focused on gender equality, climate change, DRR, and inclusive urban development. This experience will help build knowledge, networks, and practical skills relevant to a career in international development.    

Participation in missions or training courses

In addition to accessing UNOPS online training courses and tools, the Intern is encouraged to attend and participate in learning events organized by UNOPS and other UN agencies in Kathmandu, particularly those focusing on administrative issues.

Education Requirements

Required:

  • The incumbent should be enrolled in a university programme such as a Bachelor's or Master's, preferably in Project Management, Business Administration, International Development, Social Sciences, Engineering, or a related discipline. Recent graduates may also be considered

Experience Requirements

Required: 

  • Some professional experience in the fields of Administration, Finance, or any other relevant field is desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be tactful, discreet, diplomatic, and possess the ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of an organization.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work under pressure, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work in an international/ multicultural environment.


Desired: 

  • Experience in infographics, data analysis, report writing, and documentation.
  • Strong computer literacy in Google Suite applications or equivalent MS Office standard programs, with particular proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Experience in Google Data Studio
