UNOPS has signed an agreement with the United Nations to implement defined activities in support of Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Innovation and Analytics Hub (IAH), which aims to strengthen the organization’s culture of innovation.
As a result of the organizational review (OE 2.0) in 2023, the High Commissioner endorsed the creation of a hub for “innovation and data insights” to “inject new data, technology and innovative tools and thinking into OHCHR”. In alignment with the OHCHR Management Plan 2024/2027 (OMP), the objective of the Innovation and Analytics Hub (IAH) is to strengthen the organization’s culture of innovation.
The work of the Hub is guided by a set of key principles: Connecting people, ideas and solutions as a Service Centre for OHCHR and beyond; Driving Strategic Alignment and Value Creation in all we do; Strengthening Scalability, Reusability, and Interoperability of human rights data and technology; Fostering Empowerment and Participation through people & culture; and Upholding Human Rights Standards through anticipatory approaches. This requires that the IAH deliver quickly on a range of tasks, including the formation of public-private partnerships, the procurement of new technologies and other equipment, and the recruitment of highly specialized consultants. UNOPS provides project management to fulfil the objectives and aims of the project.

Under the supervision of the UNOPS Project Manager and in close coordination with the Chief of IAH, the Product/UI/UX Designer will support a variety of cross-functional digital and analytics initiatives that drive efficiency, insight, and innovation across OHCHR.
The incumbent of this position will be a personnel of UNOPS under its full responsibility.

Under the supervision of the UNOPS Project Manager and in close collaboration with IAH, the Product/UI/UX Designer will perform the following key functions:
UI/UX Support
Work with the team of front-end developers in designing user interfaces related to the Human Rights Data Exchange, ensuring quality, accessibility standards, and usability for end users.
Map data workflows and business processes, capturing user stories for new features, improvements and related information products.
Provide overall quality control for platform content and usability, working with end-users to ensure content meets evolving needs.
Develop visual material, mock-ups, and slide decks to support stakeholder engagement and training sessions on product features.
Product Design and Development
Design, create, and update static information products (e.g. reports, charts, infographics) by transforming data into analytical products using tools like think-cell, Adobe Creative Suite — ensuring clarity, attractiveness, and effectiveness in communication.
Develop standard templates and digital formats for dashboards, maps, fact sheets, and other infographics in line with OHCHR standards.
Investigate and propose data visualization scenarios, consolidating insights from multiple products into common static and dynamic products.
Capacity Building & Outreach
Strengthen outreach and visibility efforts through written materials such as one-pagers, reports, guidance notes, newsletters, blogs, and brochures etc.
Provide trainings, and capacities within the team product development and related tools.
General Visual Design Support
Deliver quick-turnaround visual assets (icons, banners, diagrams, social media graphics) for internal and external use.
Enhance layouts and visuals for presentations and documents.
Ensure consistency with OHCHR visual identity across all outputs.

A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree or equivalent), preferably in Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Technology, or in a related field to the post description, with four (4) years of relevant experience is required, OR;
An advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent), preferably in Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Technology or in a related field to post description with two (2) years of relevant experience is desirable.

Relevant experience is defined as cumulative experience across the following fields:
Experience in designing user interfaces and experience flows for complex, data-driven applications.
Experience in static and online product design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe InDesign, XD, Sketch, or similar is required
Experience in responsive design, cross-platform compatibility, and/or accessibility standards is required.
Experience in conducting user research, create wireframes, prototypes, and/or performing usability testing is required
Desired:
Experience in developing design systems, UI style guides, and component libraries is desirable.
Knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for effective collaboration with development teams is desirable.
