UNOPS has signed an agreement with the United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) to provide specialized technical support services in the areas of infrastructure monitoring, emerging technologies, and digital manufacturing.
Within this framework, the Technology Infrastructure and Support Unit (TISU) delivers operational and technical support for Field Remote Infrastructure Monitoring (FRIM) systems, Data Centre infrastructure, and 3D Printing as a Service (3DPaaS) initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, sustainability, and localized production capabilities in field mission environments.
To support the growing demand for additive manufacturing solutions and IoT/OT-based infrastructure monitoring, this position provides technical implementation, operational support, and innovation assistance to ensure service reliability, system integration, and continuous improvement of FRIM and 3DPaaS services.

Under the overall supervision of the UNOPS Programme Manager, and under the direct guidance of the Chief, Infrastructure Operations Section (IOS), and the Chief of the Technology Infrastructure and Support Unit (TISU) at the UN ICT Facility in Valencia, Spain, the ICT Associate – 3D Printing as a Service (3DPaaS) and IoT/OT (FRIM) Developer/Integrator Technician supports the implementation and promotion of technology innovation initiatives in additive manufacturing and Field Remote Infrastructure Monitoring (FRIM) environments.
The incumbent contributes to the operationalization, support, and integration of 3D Additive Manufacturing solutions and OT/IoT-based infrastructure monitoring systems, ensuring reliable service delivery, innovation support, and technical sustainability.

Duty Roster Responsibilities
1. Emerging Technologies & Innovation Support
Support the testing, deployment, and operationalization of emerging technologies aligned with Industry 4.0 principles, including IoT-based monitoring, automation, additive manufacturing, and smart infrastructure solutions.
Assist in prototyping and pilot initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure resilience, supply chain efficiency, and sustainability.
Contribute to technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and knowledge-sharing materials.
Monitor technological trends and propose practical enhancements applicable to mission environments.
2. 3D Printing as a Service (3DPaaS)
Support and expand the 3D Printing as a Service initiative to enable localized, on-demand production of spare parts and operational components.
Liaise with stakeholders to identify use cases, clarify technical requirements, and recommend appropriate additive manufacturing approaches (e.g., FDM, SLA) and materials.
Develop and optimize 3D models using CAD/CAM software.
Prepare and optimize print files using slicing software to ensure cost-efficiency, durability, and print reliability.
Operate, calibrate, and maintain 3D printing equipment to ensure consistent service delivery.
Conduct quality control checks on printed components to ensure compliance with specifications.
Coordinate and monitor 3DPaaS-related activities, including workflow planning, material tracking, and service performance reporting.
Document additive manufacturing workflows and best practices.
Support sustainability initiatives, including plastic waste recycling into 3D printing filament.
Maintain accurate records of projects, material usage, customer interactions, and troubleshooting actions.
Deliver workshops and awareness sessions promoting additive manufacturing technologies.
3. Operational Technology (OT) & Internet of Things (IoT) Support - Field Remote Infrastructure Monitoring (FRIM) Support:
Develop and maintain web-based dashboards and front-end visualization tools for FRIM data monitoring and reporting.
Support integration of FRIM data with enterprise systems and databases for reporting and operational analysis.
Assist in integrating sensors and monitoring devices into existing infrastructure environments under established technical guidance.
Provide technical troubleshooting and remote support for FRIM components to ensure system availability and reliability.
Assist in preparing technical specifications, catalogues, and Bills of Materials, and contribute to procurement and technical evaluations.
Prepare user documentation and deliver technical training sessions to strengthen operational capacity.
Assist in project management activities related to FRIM initiatives, including activity tracking, reporting, and coordination support.
4. Duty Roster Responsibilities
Participate in the Duty Roster system as required.
Provide on-call technical support outside normal working hours for critical infrastructure systems.
Respond to incidents and service disruptions related to FRIM, Data Center infrastructure, and 3DPaaS operations.
Prepare incident reports and follow-up documentation as required.

Secondary school (or equivalent) with 6 years of relevant experience OR
A technical diploma preferably in Industrial Engineering, Industrial Design, Automation, IoT, Control Systems, computer science or any other related field with 4 years of relevant experience OR
A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) preferably in Industrial Engineering, Industrial Design, Automation, IoT, Control Systems, computer science or any other related field with 2 years of relevant experience.

- Relevant experience is defined as experience in the field of industrial engineering additive manufacturing, infrastructure support, integration, or technical implementation.
- Experience working with IoT/OT/SCADA-based monitoring systems in operational or industrial environments.
- Practical experience in 3D modeling and additive manufacturing (3D printing) processes.
Desired:
- Experience supporting industrial data platforms (e.g., AVEVA PI or similar systems) is desirable.
- Knowledge of AI applications in industrial engineering or automation environments is desirable.
- Experience with Python programming or basic scripting for automation or data analysis is desirable.
